Best companion robots without a subscription

Use this guide as a decision filter, then verify the current manufacturer page before purchase. Prices, stock and connected features can change.

“No subscription” is not the same as “works offline”

A robot can have no required monthly fee and still rely on manufacturer servers for voice AI, model updates, remote access or account services. Treat subscription cost and cloud dependence as separate filters.

Strong no-required-plan AI/personality candidates

Eilik, Eiliko, Loona, Ropet KAMOMO, EMO, AIBI and LOOI currently avoid an identified mandatory whole-product monthly plan. Miko Mini and Miko 3 also work without buying Miko Max; Max is optional premium content rather than a required ownership fee.

Best truly low-cloud comfort options

Qoobo, Petit Qoobo, fufuly, metaCat and the Joy for All pets are different: their core value is tactile/comfort interaction rather than cloud intelligence. No recurring cloud plan is needed for normal interaction. Moflin also avoids a normal required U.S. monthly plan in our current snapshot, though regional support terms can differ.

Feature-gated conversation: Vector and Mia

Vector 2.0 can retain local personality behavior without a subscription, but “Hey Vector” cloud voice/AI requires membership. Mia Two-Way retains its non-conversation features without Premium, while two-way AI conversation requires $2/month. If conversation is the reason you are buying them, these are not honest “zero monthly cost” picks.

Important full-service exceptions

Sony aibo includes its first three years of AI Cloud Plan with the hardware, but the cloud plan is not lifetime-free; the current U.S. renewal after the included term is $300/year. ElliQ is explicitly a required-membership service, so its recurring fee is included in our three-year required-cost baseline.

What about Enabot?

The Enabot models in our comparison do not show a required base monthly plan in the same way ElliQ does, but connected services matter to remote camera and AI features. ROLA PetPal also has optional Cloud+ features. Several models were shown as out of stock in the official store during this snapshot, so availability should be checked first.
